Motorola recently teased that the Moto X's Android 4.4 KitKat update will be arriving soon, and it looks like it wasn't kidding. As noted by Droid-Life, Motorola has announced in one of its private forums that a soak test of the Verizon Moto X's Android 4.4 update is ready to get underway. The test is open to members of the Motorola Feedback Network and is expected to get underway "very soon" if it hasn't already.
Just as we'd expect with a device being updated from Jelly Bean to KitKat, the Verizon Moto X's Android 4.4 update brings with it a lot more than just a version number bump. Also said to be included with the update is a new phone app with the ability to look up contacts from the dialer, a "Find my phone" command for Touchless Control, NFC Host Card Emulation, new-look status and navigation bars and quite a bit more. It's not entirely surprising to see that the Moto X's update to Android 4.4 is so close since Motorola recently said that it was coming soon, but that doesn't make it any less exciting. The only devices that are officially running KitKat right now are a few pieces of Nexus hardware, and so it's looking likely that the Moto X will be one of the first non-Nexus products that gets to break off a piece of Google's KitKat bar. Here's to hoping that the Verizon Moto X's soak test goes smoothly and that the updates for other carrier-branded models aren't far behind.
