Japan Display's newest screens display high-density images
What's more important: overall pixel count, or the density of those pixels? It's a relevant question, as today Japan Display Inc. unveiled a 5.4-inch 1440 x 2560 display with a pixel density of 543 pixels per inch.
This announcement came just one day after JDI, a conflagration of Japanese tech companies, revealed what may be the world's smallest 4K screen, a 12.1-inch display with a pixel density of 365ppi.

Will it? Won't it? The latest word says that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be matching Apple's A7 chip found in the iPhone 5S.
First we heard that Samsung was working on a new 64-bit Exynos CPU for its next handset – most likely the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Then we were told that it was too squeezed for time and wouldn't have the chip ready in time for the new phone.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Challenge, Day 17: TouchWiz

I've now passed the halfway point with the Galaxy Note 3 during my 30-day challenge, and so far I'm a pretty content individual. Most of the issues I've had with previous Samsung-branded devices are still there, simply because Samsung doesn't feel the need to fix what isn't broken in their eyes, but the total package with Samsung's latest Galaxy Note smartphone/tablet hybrid is pretty dang good.

Moto X now available for $99.99 from Moto Maker, Sprint and U.S. Cellular

Moto X price cut official
Remember that rumored Moto X price cut that we heard about way back in August? Looks like that leak was legit, as Motorola's Moto Maker website is now advertising the Moto X with a starting price of $99.99. That means that shoppers can snag a customized 16GB Moto X for AT&T by handing over a Benjamin. Meanwhile, the 32GB AT&T Moto X is available for $149.
just in case those price cuts aren't enough to get you to pull the proverbial trigger, the Moto Maker website is also offering a free Motorola Skip unlocking accessory with the purchase of any custom Moto X. Oh, and any Moto Maker orders of $75 or more will receive free two-day shipping, too.
There's some good news today for Moto X-curious consumers not on AT&T as well. Motorola's latest handset has also received price cuts from Sprint and U.S. Cellular, both of which are now selling the 16GB Moto X for $99.99 with a two-year commitment. Customers on those carriers don't yet have access to the Moto Maker customization tool, though, meaning that their color options are limited to black or white. U.S. Cellular is also offering a $75 switcher discount to new customers that knocks the 16GB Moto X's price to $24.99 on contract.
Price cuts happen fairly frequently in the mobile world, and so it's not entirely surprising to see the Moto X being discounted by AT&T, Sprint and U.S. Cellular a couple of months after it hit store shelves. That doesn't mean that these discounts aren't welcome, though, especially for AT&T customers that can snag a customized Moto X for $100. Motorola's device may not be the freshest Android handset on the block any longer, but it's still a respectable device that just got a pretty significant software update, so now may be the time to buy if you've been on the Moto X fence.

LG G Pad 8.3 LTE version appears on Amazon

LG announced the G Pad 8.3 slate at IFA back in September. There were no details on an LTE version back then and all LG said was that it's under consideration.
Amazon DE seems to have some info though, spilling the beans on an upcoming LTE-enabled model of the LG G Pad 8.3.

Amazon DE has listed the LTE-capable flavor of the LG G Pad 8.3 for €346.50. There is no estimated delivery, release date, nor is there an official picture. Amazon has uploaded this listing on September 30, weeks before the slate officially hits the shelves.
An LTE version of the LG G Pad 8.3 would certainly be welcome and we hope this is more than a cheap publicity stunt by Amazon. We already have the slate in our office and its review will be ready later today.

Our FAQ for the first Windows Phone phablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is one of the year’s most leaked smartphones, and we’ve been following its story ever since before it was revealed under the codename of the Nokia Bandit, way back in April. Nokia launched the Lumia 1520 during a busy event in Abu Dhabi on October 22, although the device’s significance was played down at the time. It’s a notable release for several reasons: it could be one of the last Nokia-branded smartphones; it’s the very first to use the new version of Windows Phone; and it’s the first phablet, or smartphone/tablet hybrid, for Windows.

10 crazy Android devices that make your phone look boring, from fridges to bikes

LG unveils its first Firefox phone, but only Brazil can use it

LG had previously committed to producing a phone powered by Mozilla’s Firefox OS, and following several vague rumors concerning the device’s impending arrival, it has now been made official. It’s called the LG Fireweb, and is technically superior (although not by much) to existing Firefox OS phones such as the ZTE Open, but sadly, its release is equally restricted.
The Fireweb is visually reminiscent of LG’s low-end L-Series 2 phones, and shares a similar spec to the L5 2. The screen measures 4-inches and has a 480 x 320 pixel resolution, while inside is a single-core, 1GHz processor produced by Qualcomm. The camera has 5-megapixels and in a first for a Firefox OS phone, is accompanied by auto-focus and an LED flash.
