A couple of what are apparently press renders for the upcoming Nexus 10 (2013) tablet leaked over the weekend, and, if genuine, add more weight to the suggestion that Korean tech company LG will manufacture Google’s large-size 10.1-inch slate. Calling on LG to produce the tablet would mark a move away from Samsung, which has been responsible for the manufacture of the first-generation Nexus 10 since it hit the market in November last year.
LG, meanwhile, is responsible for knocking together the Nexus 5 phone, though Asus makes the Nexus 7 slate for Google.
The bottom image, which admittedly looks pretty crude but supposedly comes from Spanish broadband and telecommunications provider Telefonica (via a disgruntled employee), shows a thinner bezel, what looks to be a front-facing speaker, and Android 4.4’s Google Experience launcher, first seen on the new Nexus 5. There’s a price tag too, showing £300 (about $482) – presumably this refers to the cellular version.
The second image (above), which also appeared on Reddit but has since been taken down, comes with the impossible-to-miss LG logo. The folks at Phone Arena reported that text that appeared on the now-removed webpage showing the image revealed the tablet will hit the market on November 22 – that’s Friday this week – in both black and white flavors.
If other recent leaks and rumors turn out to be correct, Google’s largest tablet is expected to launch with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution – matching that of the current version – 3GB of RAM and possibly a Snapdragon 800 processor.
An 8-megapixel camera could also be on the cards. If so, this would be a step up from the 5-megapixel shooter found on the existing Nexus 10.
The suggested November 22 launch date is certainly a possibility, and would be just over a year since the arrival of the original model. Google will surely want to have it on the market in time for the holiday season, and leaving it much later would certainly risk missing out on sales.
If you’re interested in laying your hands on the new Nexus 10, hopefully there’ll be some news before the week’s out.
