The list of hardware that Android has either already appeared on or is rumored to be coming to is pretty extensive, comprising of smartphones, tablets, media streaming devices, televisions and a smartwatch. Now we can add another product to that list, as a new report has surfaced that claims that Google is prepping an Android-powered set top box.
According to a Google employee speaking to The Information, Google is working on a Nexus-branded set top box that will run Android and not only support video streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, but play video games as well. One thing that the set top box isn't expected to include, though, is support for live broadcast television. When it comes to controlling Google's set top box, it's said that each unit will come with a touchpad remote.
This "Nexus TV" wouldn't be the first Android-powered set top box to hit the market, as we've seen several Google TV units from companies like Vizio, Sony and Logitech. Google has yet to release such a device itself, though, and so it'd be interesting to see what kind of hardware the Big G could come up with. The good news is that we may not have long to wait to find out what this Nexus TV box is all about, as today's report claims that it could be released as early as the first half of 2014 and that Google is planning to price it "aggressively."
